just curious to see how many of us are still in employment. I have noticed that a few of us mention going to work and others don't mention it at all. I've decided to retire in November due to family circumstances and I can tell you that I am not really looking forward to it! It would be selfish of me to carry on with a job I love but at the moment I am needed at home. so of course I really have no choice. i suppose it is just another step in life. After all, nothing stays the same forever . I do feel a little sad at the prospect. What do others think about retiring. (Anyway I've overstayed my welcome at work as I am 62 and should technically retired at 60!)

An interesting post that I have only just noticed - apologies.
I have to continue working as I have little pension provision but also because I need the challenge and am no longer active in competitive sport. I do not garden have already seen the world so actually enjoy most of the work I do on a self employed basis.

I still work full time, as it keeps me in the life of luxury that I am accustomed!Wink
Seriously, it keeps a roof over my head, but I work shifts, and getting up at half past four on a cold wet January morning can be a struggle.Hmmm

I work full time too, and pretty gruelling shifts . Another five years at least for me I think, but during that time I hope to build up the time that I spend making crafts for money so that retirement should be fulfilling in other areas.

I have a freelance editing and copywriting business ... and I am soooo tired of the heavy research! The fun, creative stuff is great, but the business publications - aargh!

Yep still working - although only returned to paid workforce about 6 or 7 years ago after doing the at-home-mum thing. Kept my head together doing a Uni degree in that time.

Now I am on the treadmill, don't know when I can retire - I work for a not-for-profit organisation on various projects so I guess retirement will come when the money runs out.

Been working full time since my divorce 25 years ago, very necessary to raise 3 children. Now can't see any time when I will be able to afford not to work if I want to eat and keep warm with all the doom and gloom about the value of pensions!!!

Still working to pay for a newly acquired car. But mainly because I like it. I only do part time, so still have a lot of time to myself. If I keep my health I will retire in two years and enjoy it as much as possible. I would like to tour GB , I think it's still beautiful. Good luck Lanza.Shades

I do voluntary driving for the NHS. Now I am 70 I only do 2 days a week but they can be very busy. Not unknown to do over 200 miles in a days patient pick-ups. Unfortunately we are I hear down to 15 drivers in East Kent. This gives us the idea that 'They' are trying to get rid of us for some reason although at 40p a mile we are the cheapest form of transport in the country. V
ery sad if I an forced to give it up. I need the two days a week out meeting people.

I work 4 days a week now in a job that I love and which gives me a reason to get up for, still about 10 years to go, as I am now on my own, but hey ho it is better than being stuck at home with no money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have now started to make birthday cards etc which I am enjoying so you never know I may be able to expand that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although I expect I will be working till I am 65 at least, I am considering, between now and then, of taking advantage of the "sabbatical" that my workplace offers - the minimum is 3 months. That would be enough to give me a nice break & to travel etc. whilst I still have my health, and a job & income to come back to, to replenish the coffers!

I am still working and have another 8 years to go. I love it, and the lifestyle that it brings. I have a good social life and some of that is with work colleagues that I have known for 17 years, and the regular income certainly helps.

Meanwhile, I am making plans for my far -off retirement. Maybe living by the coast, water-colour painting, or perhaps just painting the town red? Happy

I am almost 71 and I still work part-time and it is evening/weekend work. Last Friday I worked from 6.30 p.m. until 1.30 a.m. and I love it. Usually it is Sundays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I am still working at 64, nothing unusual about this. But two of my collegues are aged 78! And it's physically demanding too!
