Have been line dancing several years and still enjoy it. Now teaching a class of about 45 people of mixed abilities and they are having a great time - we do all the old favourite beginner ones and some new dances too. Keeps me fit that's for sure

Just discovered this forum and thought I would add a comment. I line dance in Crewe where it is very popular - lots of classes.
My class is " Wrangler Butts" aka Judy & Tony, superb dancers and very good teachers.
I started line dancing because I had no partner for ballroom dancing and I absolutely love it. I go to 3 classes a week and a monthly social where we meet up with folks from other clubs/ classes.
The highlight of our year is a line dancing weekend in Blackpool at the Norbreck Castle Hotel. To see 600 dancers take to the floor is really something!
My current favourite among the new dances is Speak to your Heart. My favourite artist to both listen to and dance to, especially "live" is Dave Sheriff.
Love to hear from other dancers,
regards
Maureen

Hi Maureen
I also love to line dance and when I was away last weekend (Halloween Weekend) in Longridge, I went and had a class in the British Legion Club. The teacher, John Barber, was on holiday but I was made most welcome. They dance such a lot of oldies that I knew them all so that made a change. Do you go to the Norbreck for the Crystal Boot Awards? I don't as none of my fellow dancers would go but some have been to a normal line dancing weekend at the Norbreck although some are not that keen on the hotel, the last time they went it was being refurbished and those with the older rooms found them to be very draughty and there were complains about the condition of the floor they were dancing on.
My favourite dances at the moment are SISTER KATE and TIME TO SWING.
Chris
PS If you go on the Line Dancer Magazine messageboards I am known as Dancing Chris

Hello again Chris. Have not been on Saga Zone very often these days but I'm still Line Dancing. We also do Sister Kate and a new favourite is Tennessee Waltz.

Hi Dancing Doll - nice to see you posting again. Must be about 18mths/2yrs ago since we posted on here together.
I like MOJO RHYTHM and TIME TO SWING but I am suffering with a back problem. Had a jab to stop the sacroiliac joint giving me problems and it worked as I successfully had a Tap Dance weekend and completed the 5 teaching workshops and the Review workshop but have had problems since. The cold damp weather has not helped but I still manage the line dancing. Probably due to being able to sit down in between the dances or when I don't want to do/don't like a dance.

Hi Chris
We go to the "normal" line dancing weekends and always later in November.
Norbreck isnt the smartest of hotels but we havent had any problems and of course the company you are in makes or breaks the weekend.
I love Sister Kate and Mojo Rhythm! Mojo reminds me of my old tap dancing classes.

Where did you go to tap classes then?
3 weeks ago I went on a Tap Dancing Weekend held in Luton and had a brilliant time. The person who runs it has his own dancing school in Ampthill and is also in showbiz. If you go to my profile and look in my albums, you will see the album Tap Dancing Memories and I have a photo of Maurice in there.
I went to another line dance class today which is new for me but not a new class, and think it is an improver class rather than intermediate as the fella (standing in for the normal teacher) was teaching such easy dances, one as I arrived late (my son read the wrong start time on the poster) was that simple by the time I had my shoes on I was able to just join in, and the lady next to me asked if I knew the dance and was rather surprised when I said no, but just saw what was being taught and did it.

Hello again Chris and love2dance. Clever you trying tap dancing. I was on a cruise ship and tried a class and really enjoyed it. Always said I would like to go to a class but so far have not had time. I also do Scottish Country Dancing and enjoy that.

Hi there DancingDoll & Love2dance
Yes, I do enjoy my tap dancing as well as line dancing but find that with a problem in my back, although I did complete a recent Tap Dance weekend, I have suffered for my pleasure ever since. I doubt I shall be at another weekend like it, and also my tap classes are in jeopardy at the moment but I have not hung up the tap shoes just yet.
The Line Dancing I do enjoy and despite the dodgy back, I can do it as when the back gives problems but not enough to stop me going to class, I can at least sit down in between dances or just miss out on a dance or two and then get up. There is no 'jumping/hopping' like there is tap dancing.
If you are serious about still wanting to learn to tap, DDoll, enquire at any dancing school and they will either let you know when their Adult Tap Class is or if they don't have one, they will probably know who does have one.
Luv & hugs

I live on the Cosat Brava in Spain and go to a line dancing class twice a week run by an English couple. Good fun and excerise for the body and brain!! Some dances hard to remember at first.

I am fortunate in that I can remember dances quite well, but having said that if the dance doesn't appeal to me I don't bother taking the trouble to remember them. You probably find that when learning a new dance that they don't always 'grab' you from the word go. Some of them if they have too many turns I don't bother although I will learn them at the time of the teach and do either 2 walks or a vine instead of the turn.
What is the latest dance you have learnt?

Tennesee Waltz. There are 2 versions, an easy one and a harder one. I like both but at dances I do the easy one as I don't have to concentrate so much. The words are in German.

I only saw this dance in a video on You Tube as out class has yet to decide whether to do it or not. The one I am having to get my head round is THE PIPER to music of the same name by ABBA. I have watched the video of it and have been doing the dance at various times at home but have yet to do it in class. Problem was, the evening class I went to having travelled back from down south earlier in the day, I was that tired that I sat out for quite a few of the dances and this was one of them and then never went for 2 weeks so missed out on it. I am hoping it is done tonight as we have our Christmas Social next Saturday and I would love to be able to dance it. The other new one I need to suss out is PLAYING WITH FIRE danced to Bad Boyz and we did it 2wks ago and I had to miss last week so hoping we get a walk through tonight.
Nice to see you posing DD

We have not done the Piper, sounds good. We have done Playing with Fire although I am not so sure of it. I do an easy class on Thursday afternoon and a more advanced class on Wednesday Evening. I have missed a few Wednesdays and it is quite hard to pick up the more difficult dances. I never try the dances at home, I need the teacher to teach them.

I have started going to my teacher's easier class on a Tuesday afternoon. Some of the slightly harder dances are done but she does some of the easier dances which is nice as I get to learn more dances. One she did last week was called THE LITTLE SHIRT and it is a nice simple dance and she said that the Tuesday Intermediate class were not too keen. I have asked if she will teach it to our Monday class but as yet she hasn't but perhaps she will in the New Year.

We do the little shirt if it is the one I am thinking about. A nice catchy Irish tune about the little shirt my mother gave to me. We had our dance on Friday night so no more dancing till 13th January. Have a nice Christmas all you line dancers.

That should have read " some of the slightly harder dances are NOT done
Yes Dancingdoll, that is the one. Due to the bad weather we had I had to miss the last class/social on the Monday before Christmas. My back had been hurting and I was not chancing slipping over going from car to venue as you have to walk down an alleyway at the side of a short row of houses, and at the back of those on the next street. 2/3rd of those who had said they would go went, but they live locally to the venue.
Hoping you have a good New Year.

If anybody on this thread goes to or knows of line dancing classes in the Clapham area of London I would be obliged if you got in touch. A friend on my Line Dance messageboard is asking for friends who will be over from South Africa during April/May time and want an Intermediate class to go to whilst they are on holiday.

I have been line dancing for about 12 years now and my local one has just closed down due to the teacher having a bad back - I live in Harrogate - but my friends and I go to another one in Harrogate and also one in Knaresborough. We have all been dancing for a long time but still can't remember all the names of the dances but once the music starts we seem to remember how the dance goes.

Funny you should say that as when I went to a Friday afternoon class with the previous teacher - new teacher's teaching I can't get on with - and when the teacher was unable to attend, my friend who kept things going, would put one of her compilation CD's on which was made by the teacher for when she couldn't get there, and often she would say 'Do you know so & so dance' to which she more often than not got the reply 'Put the music on and we will tell you' cos the tracks were for oldies and it was nice to go back to those at times.
What are you currently learnt new dances - that is if you can remember the names.
