I've heard that haemorrhoid cream is supposed to be good for bags under the eyes, because it sort of tightens everything up. Haven't dared try it though - has anyone else here?

Have you tried "Smoothing Line Serum" by L** E****? I pat it on with my ring finger to the eye area after using my Moisturiser. Works for me.

Mercatoria, thanks for the suggestion about samples,I know what you mean about lighting in shops!
NellieC I havn't heard of mineral powders but would like to know more as I do like a light finish. Someone gave me a Boots moisturiser for a present and I, too, think it is great. My skin tends to be quite dry and sensitive and it has been easy to apply and keeps it moisturised all day.
Measles I have never used pan stick but I always thought it was a sort of foundation so I was puzzled when you said you used pan stick first and then a tinted finish on top, can you enlighten me please? Also I've heard loads of people say they could not live without touche eclat but it is one more thing I have never had! Is it used solely for problem areas? (I feel like a teenager again with all my questions!)
I have to say I am feeling so much brighter since I started putting on some make-up every morning again after such a long time without. It has also been really cheering to 'talk' to you all - you have all been really helpful and so much fun - THANK YOU

Can anyone make a suggestion to Improve REALLY dry lips. I've tried moisturiser, lipstick, Vaseline Intensive Lotion, none of these helped. In desperation I tried an Aloe Vera Lip Balm, which brought my lips out in blisters, so discontinued that right away! They feel horrid. Any ideas?

Hello Gert. I too have very dry lips. I think some of the problem is using the blower in the car. I use Lyps*l as often as possible and maybe a moisturising lipstick. The lippy I use has an outer layer of sealer, a bit like a lip salve. My DIL swears by Vaseline and only uses gels for her lips..

Perfectly Patient. Panstick is foundation in solid form like a lipstick. I apply it on cheeks, forehead, nose and chin after moisturising then blend it in. Then I use a light tint to give a tanned like sort of glow. Then under my eyes I use the Touche Eclat to cover those dreaded dark areas. Then a touch of cream blusher. Wait five minutes and then with a large brush dust over some powder very very lightly. I hope that helps.

I use Liz Earle's "Superbalm" and find it excellent for dry, chapped lips. It can be used for nails and cuticles. Good for Skiers! All botanical ingredients, very soothing.

My lips got sore and chapped in the recent cold weather and I tried lipsalve and vaseline - but neither helped much, then I remembered the small pot of Rosebud salve I had forgotten about in the drawer - instant result! It's American I think but I just googled and you can get it here. Good for dry cuticles as well.

I have tried mostly everything and anything, and have come to the conclusion,as long as you moisturise well it doesn't really matter what you use- expensive or cheap.

I have tried haemorhoid cream it didn't hurt or do anything bad, but I don't think it helped that much either. Touche eclat; expensive and you may as well use any other dark shadow concealer.

For chapped dry lips and even hard skin on feet Pure Vaeline is as good as anything.

Thanks for saving me the embarrassment of going to buy it!

I agree about Vaseline - don't know how I'd manage without it. I buy a big tub from the pound shop and then decant a bit into a little lip gloss pot to carry in my handbag. As well as feet, it's good for rough skin on elbows too.

Thanks for all suggestion for very dry skin on lips. I think I'll give normal Vaseline a try first, then if that doesn't work for me, I'll try the Liz Earl stuff. Thanks everyone.

Measles, thank you VERY much for your excellent explanation. Yes, it most certainly did help thanks. My technique and and the results are improving every day. Several people have said how much better I am looking recently. Of course I have not told them why - I just smile sweetly and say "oh that's good I am pleased you think so".
Thanks again for everyone who has helped.

I'm using Olay Eye Definity ( cheaper on ebay ) and find that its great - just need a tiny tiny amount each morning and night I put it around my eyes in a sort of 'figure of eight' movement, its lasting ages, and anyway I think its good, - ( and I dont have an 'air-brushed' face like they've given Twiggy, by using this ! ..(meeeiaow ! )

Simple moisturiser and cleanser is good too, as it suits me as I have sensitive eyes, but I do agree with valligirl that any product is good if it suits you.

Pandora, depending on your colouring I find that the best colour lipstick for my sallow in winter and light tan in the summer is "Nude " or "Birthday" from Max Factor. It makes the lips appear fuller too, so no need for botox, and your teeth never look yellow. Unless you are a black coffee addict. I have never worn makeup, only moisturisers, because on watching make-uo artists, they pull the skin around the eyes this way and that way, etc and the skin sags eventually with all that messing about.

If trying foundation for the possibly the first time, why not seek our your Avon Representative as they either have or can get hold of samples for you to try but if you buy one of their products and it is not right, you can return it for a full refund.

I have never worn foundation - although I have one in the draw but not had the courage to wear it yest - but can remember the panstick which we also used on lips before putting on lipstick as it would make it a shade or two lighter.

For those with dry or chapped lips by a tube of Blistex (aka Blisteze) and put on lips last thing at night and also in the morning before applying lipstick.

During the winter when we have snow & the sun shining, I use Sunscreen in the same way you use it during the summer, as often you can end up with wind burn on the cheeks. This happened to me last January when helping my son do a garden project and we were on a corner plot and the wind was very cold and I ended up with very sore cheeks, but after it had stopped being sore and I used Sunscreen they were not sore any more.

I think at the end of the day, it's all about diet, eating lots of fruit, not having much alcohol, and eating lots of salad, and how much water you drink, and genetics, and less is more, but like you say, protection is needed from all weather conditions, as well as sunshine. Stress can play havoc on your skin too.
