I see you have recently been to Tenerife. We went in January, first time I've been back in 20 years and was very impressed with the improvements. What did you think of it?

Tenerife was absolutely amazing. It was like being on Honeymoon, we couldn't fault it.

How did the Sixty/40 thing happen? I was hoping to get some hints for more freebies!

nope. 60 aint the new forty. those of us still under 60 have got to wait a lot longer for all the freebies at pension age cos theyve changed the rules for us! Although Im more or less retired, I get zilch; Im not moaning to get something from the state; Im solvent but usually the only full paying passenger or entrant to anywhere.
everything stated for over 50s generally means over 60s; swimming, clubs, the lot. anyone between 50 and 60 is still assumed to be working all week.

I know the over 60s get free prescriptions now, but do they get free dentals?

Nooooo! Penalises those of us who kept (at least some) of our own fangs!
You do get age discounts with the Camping and Caravaning Club, if you like sitting in the sunshine drinking red wine.

My OH turns 60 this month and so far hes had a form to fill in for winter fuel allowance , i expect everything else he has to apply for as most council give aways are not thrown at you , but seek out and find oneself .
This last year he must be looking his age though cause he is getting in at cinemas as a oap, i believe theartres and museums also do concesions,

You need to contact the tax office if you have any private pensions as you will pay less tax. You get free prescriptions but not dental treatment.
Apply for a bus pass and ask for an OAP ticket at the cinema which is £2 cheaper. Also there is a Tues morning showing at some Odeon cinemas for £4 with free tea and coffee which is pretty good - they show some recent films. Some cinemas let people who are registered deaf in free - I think it is Virgin.
Apply for the winter fuel allowance which is now £250 and you're all set!

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the Boots 10% Health Club. You apply to join, your Advantage card is updated, and any Boots product you buy attracts an additional 10% off.
And the Focus 10% is now any day.

Richard

Ah! yes I forgot to mention the Boots 10% I think you have to be 65. I think the Boots Advantage card is the best one around - points soon mount up. My favourite body cream is so expensive - The Sanctuary - Mestizo - but it's fabulous so I save my points to get it. It smells heavenly and is the best one around - once you have used it you don't want anything else!!

Ah! sorry Dickie Mint yes it is 60 and for the cinema too - I realised I had missed out only a couple of years ago on the cinema. It pays to know these things but then I wasn't on the site when I was 60 (in fact I don't think it existed then) - there is always someone on here who knows all the tricks of the trade - it's a great site to find things out. By the way Dickie have you tried the body cream!!!!

ATS over 60s discount is now any day, not just Thursdays as it was before. They are also giving 15% off 2 tyres or 25% off 4 tyres (only trouble is I can't get out at the moment - Snowed in!)

I bought 2 x tyres from them this morning (ATS) BEWARE THOUGH, the over 60s offer cannot be used in conjuction with any other discounts!
Mind you, I tried another tyre chain (Kwikfix) and they wanted over £200 for 2 tyres! Talk about making hay .................................. !
