Apologies for this message not being in the correct catagory of Volunteer Travelling.
Can anyone suggest a pleasant outdoor volunteering opportunity, not too strenuous, no bridge building or digging, that I can incorporate into my hobby of walking, I live in the West Wales area.Have tried a few, i.e National Trust security volunteer, Botanical Gardens of Wales and Age Concern, I need something where I'll be out and about .
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Dai

Why not try volunteering at an EVENT at a national trust place? I have done it twice, and its interesting and outside.

Pandora,
Thanks for that. For about 4 years I was the Volunteer Security Adviser for the South and South West Wales which got me about the whole of a really beautiful area. I met some lovely people and at the same time I met some very awkward people. 80% of my time was wasted in submitting security reports on different properties which were not acted upon, consequently I resigned from a volunteer job which I did thoroughly enjoy - except for the waste of time bit. If only they listened.
Any other ideas will be greatfully accepted.
Thanks,
Dave

Have a look at:- doit.org there are loads of voluntary opportunities there. What about asking your local council if there's any archaeological digs in the area? They always need people for cleaning and sorting small finds which is not too strenuous.

other like-minded people who are maybe house-bound, may like to get out and about too, so it could be an idea to ask around at, say hospitals, nursing homes, social services etc etc, and help them get out into the fresh air if they cant do it themselves.

I am thinking of people who may be in a wheelchair, or would like some help in walking a small way, just to give them some fresh air and exercise - shopping with them even, or visiting a relative.. and some people may just like a friend to walk with..these are just a few thoughts I came up with... any good ?

How about dog walking. Elderly people who can't get out often need someone to exercise their dogs. There is a charity but I can't remember the name. You could try a Google search if interested.
Also I know Age Concern often look for volunteers to lead gentle walks for the less active.

Have you ever considered volunteering with the RSPB. I am not sure if you have to be a member to volunteer (I am). I spent a week in the lake district on one of their reserves a few years ago. The accommodation was basic but clean and was shared. You don't have to be highly skilled or knowledgeable about birds - just willing. As far as possible they will match the volunteer with the task. These are some of the things I did while I was volunteering - clear paths - clean hides - count birds - light a bonfire - take round promotional material to holiday venues - word process - and help in the shop. If you want more information just google - RSPB - Volunteering and lots of information appears.
