I take it you have used it in the meantime.
Could be the battery knackered, could be the bikes alternator, regulator, alarm system, almost anything electric on the bike
What 500cc is it. Is it by any chance a CX500. You will need to do a methodical fault find until you find the culprit. Should be easy enough with a decent meter.

If you go here you can download a PDF file with a good fault finding chart.

If you can get hold of a meter stick it across the battery and gently rev the engine and see what voltage it goes up to. Round about 14 volts should be seen. Much higher and it could be the regulator, much lower and could be the regulator or the alternator. Could even be something as silly as a dodgy connection.
Have a look at the chart I suggested above, it is fairly staright forward. I don't know where you are, but if Sandown is local to you then you are too far for me, otherwise I would have had a ride out and given it a look.

I would go to a garage and ask them to check the battery, they don't last forever, you could invest in a battery tender that will keep it in top condition.

One of my sons has the same problem with his CB400, his is an import and we wonder if that's part of his problem, his is parked on the road, near the sea and becuase of his work he doesn't have the chance to get out on it often enough. We've suggested he puts it in for part-ex, not that I'm suggesting that for yours but is it by any chance an import as well?

Lack of use is probably the biggest killer of batteries there is. Most bikes having an "Electric Leg" these days means that even a mildly dodgy battery will give up the ghost.

Hi chaps. My battery has just died on me, must get a new one. Not messing, I almost cannot believe that it has worked perfectly for over 12 years.
