The "Training your Brain" booklet that came free with a newspaper recently contained the following puzzle:

"A young child has returned home from school to find seven pebbles, a carrot and a wet scarf on the grass outside the house. Why is the child crying?"

Does anyone know the answer to this one? (We didn't get the next week's paper so never found out what the correct answer was, and I'd very much like to find out!)

Definitely a melted snowman, I'd say!

Re: Brain training and the 'Gravity' game reported in the last Saga mag.

Readers might be interested in a series of computer 'games' called 'Myst' this was the first and followed by others.

Like Prof Weiss's Gravity game there is nothing to be killed, shot at. There is no premium either for fast keyboard operation. It has visually appealing graphics and is in the form of a series or puzzles. These operate in different ways. Sometimes notes have to be read and the content acted upon, sometimes there are patterns that need to be worked out. There is no time element involved so solve it at your leasure.

If anyone played the game 'Dungeons & Dragons' then it has more of that sort of flavour.
Cheers

Haven't looked at "Myst" yet but they seem to be a good kind of game as you say there is nothing shot or murdered! Makes a change these days - I prefer something that involves ones brain rather than reactions!

Oh dear I must beg to differ - Myst - given 1.5 out of 10 by Gamespot and described as abysmal. I had a trial and it is so boring - you cant even really use a mouse. I appreciate we are golden oldies but surely we are not that backward.
