What was your last Charity Shop Bargain ( music related )?
In the last few months I've picked up the following , all in mint condition I might add :-
2 cd " A Night In San Francisco " Van Morrison .
2 cd " Across The Decades " Fairport Convention .
" Songs From The Wood " Jethro Tull .
All for £1.50 each.
Also for the princely sum of £6 , a 6 cd box set of Coleman Hawkins recordings 1929 - 1941 .
In one shop , where they were doing cds BOGOF for £1 , I got :-
" Best of Stan Freberg " plus a " special collectors edition " of " Aqualung Live " by Jethro Tull .
Oh yes and a rather nice " Late Nite Jazz " compilation for 50p .

So many I've lost count. Possibly Thelonius Monk (a best-of), Mozart arias, a gospel compilation (Help the Aged, Lowestoft last year) and on, and on..... Highly recommended, and if I don't like it it goes back to the charity shop.

last weekend i bought 112 cd's and dvd's from a garage sale. you know the sort 'free with newspapers'. are i hear you cry you could have got them for free. no i couldn't cause i do not buy national daily newspapers and even if i did i would have had to have spent at least £30 pounds. anyway i took out what i wanted and sold the rest on for £6

Did the Stan Freberg "best buy" have on there The Chariot Race and/or The History of the USA? Just thought I would ask as I have lost my recordings now. I do have a CD Set of Spike Jones but I'm afraid I did not buy this from the Charity Shop. Regards JanetT

I bought a Josh Groban CD last week from the Cancer Research shop In Hemel Hempstead. I can't
imagine buying new anymore when there is such much to buy second-hand. I confess to still buying cassette tapes as I have the players at home though sadly not in my car.

I hope people realise that they are not supposed to 'sell' the free cds on. We got round this at church bazaars by asking people to take what they wanted and then make a 'donation' if they were so inclined. The charity shops can't even take them.
On the other hand, I have bought so many mainly classical albums at either local charity shops or ones we've found when we've been on holiday that it would be hard to remember which we got full price and which not.

You're not alone here. I still play some of the tapes I recorded from the radio to a farily high end Teac. Sadly, that machine died on me, so I'm currently using an elderly Awai ADF460, and the tapes sound great. Much better than low bit rate MP3s.
Just because we've got CDs and MP3s (the devi'ls spawn, but so convenient to upload, before anyone calls me a hypocrtie), that doesn't mean we have to throw out the tapes that are part of our past. They invoke memories ...
And vinyl still sounds best.

In the last week or so I've managed to pick up the following cds :-
Grover Washington Jr " Winelight "
Gerry Mulligan " No Title - Compact Jazz "
Benny Goodman " Swing is the Thing "
Ruby Braff with the Alex Welsh Band
Pee Wee Russell with the Alex Welsh Band
Total £6 ( not bad )
Listening to the Gerry Mulligan as I write . Really good .

Last week there was an immaculate sunburst "Squier Stratocaster" in our local Arthiritis Research shop - for £60!. I didn't buy it though, I already have eight guitars - and one very angry wife....

Afraid I've always given CD's and cassettes a miss at charity shop - a bit wary about quality etc.
But buy all my books from them and take them back again!!
Will take alook next time I go into town.

A wise choice.
Two wives can be a horrible drain on the wallet ...

I once bought a rare "Queens Of The Stone Age" CD in a charity shop for £1.25 and sold it on ebay for nearly £10. A lot of my money went to that particular shop over the years so I felt no guilt in making a profit on this occasion.
