I am a member of a leisure club situated within a hotel. Before leaving I always bought coffee at
£1.20 per cup but it has now increased to £1.50. I therefore read five of the hotels' daily papers at an average cost of 40p = £2.00 .I am now 50p in pocket x 2 attendances PW x 50 weekly visits.
I am therefore £50.00 PA better off than I was before.+ a "free"coffeeBig cheesy grin

I use a Credit Card issued by a popular chain store, that can be used anywhere. Instead of buying with cash, I buy almost everything with this credit card, then take the cash to the bank once a week and send the money on to the credit card company. In return they give me lots of vouchers to spend in their shops.

When you go to the pub and order a drink with a shot of lime, blackcurrant or maybe a touch of lemonade wait until you have paid for the main drink THEN ask for the shot, 9 times out of 10 they will just pour it in without charge as it is to much hassle to ring 20p or so in the till plus many of the digital itemised tills dont cater for cordial top ups, works everytime in Weatherspoons.
It soon mounts up.

But I hope that you dont let it mount up too much (as you dislike drunks!).

Anyway, welcome to SZ...I shall try that one out at lunchtime.

People who have never ventured into a charity shop should...

I buy a lot of clothes in charity shops and though you have to visit lots and wade through junk there are REAL bargains to be had.

My best buy has probably been a Barbour jacket that looked new and would have retailed at £165 which I got for £11. In fact I've got five Barbours of varying design/colour. I've also got a very nice Jaeger velvet formal jacket and a Ralph Lauren blouson besides many more "ordinary" brands.

You quite often come across brand new goods still with the labels attached - particularly shirts - I got a Charles Tyrwhitt shirt recently for about £4 (retail value £29.50+).

I still buy some clothes new but for example as writing this I'm wearing new trousers, but charity shop shirt (M+S), jacket (Ciro Citterio), and shoes (Timberland).

My niece got married last November and I bought my dress and hat in a charity shop for £10 for the two (you do have to wade through a lot of rubbish though!). After the wedding I took them back so that they could resell them. Did me a favour and made the charity extra cash.

If you have the time to take a good look round Charity shops then it is definitely worth while you can make some great little finds. All this doom and gloom about the recession is sooo depressing.

Some of my friends are doing the 'Eclipse Challengue' to try and save money.

It's a new campaign aimed at helping people to save for life's little luxuries (whats life without them?) by using their monthly budget more frugally. ‘The Eclipse Challenge’, so named because it by Eclipse Card, asks people to look at how much they spend on the essentials in any given month. These include utilities like water and electricity, food, clothes, healthcare and bills. Once these are added, the challenge is to research each bill, budget or tariff online until you can save a total of 25%. Apparently it is definitely do-able with a few hours spent making calls or going online as retailers and suppliers are more desperate for your consumer pound.

Youu then put 10% into the family savings or bonds – so ensuring there’s an ever increasing pot should your personal circumstances change. And after that, you have 15% remaining – which you put on your Eclipse Prepaid MasterCard. This is then your ‘fun & frolics’ account. You add the money through clever budgeting then spend it to add a bit of sun to an otherwise bleak financial climate.

Eclipse Card are evening launching The Eclipse Lounge whereby canny savers can look for deals through approved third parties, making it easier to reach the goal of 25% savings within the target 3 months.

Save save save....and then spend spend spend Happy

One I heard about (but don't subscribe to I hasten to add) is when you make a telephone call hang up after 2 rings. Straight away the recipient will ring you back saying ` Have I just missed your call?`

Cheeky monkey kinda smiley.

I and my father do this all the time with my brother. He has a mobile on contract, we don't. So we ring him - let it ring once to register on his phone - and he rings us back sing his "free" minutes...
