I have been going to ballroom dancing lessons for almost 3 years, and wondered if there were any others who would like to chat about this.

Hello all Dancers, My husband, George, has a very successful danceband. Not many around now. Just wondered if you were anywhere near enough to come to one of our 50/50 ballroom & sequence dances which I run each month. He plays in Sunderland, South Shields & Easington (near Hartlepool) It is so popular that we have to limit numbers. The music is just like it used to be, because he played in a band in the 50s & sixties & tries to keep it as it was. Running these dances & selling tickets for them keeps me so busy. Its taken over my life. I really enjoy the interaction with the dancers (of all ages & abilities) I'm convinced its keeping me young & stretches my brain power. I sometimes wonder why I do it, but when the dancers are leaving & saying what a great night they've had, & how good the music is, THEN I know why. Hope you are enjoying dancing for many years to come......please reply if your anywhere near us..... bye for now, Pat

Hi Jane. I love ballroom but hadn't danced for more than 10 years because I didn't have a dance partner.

Now I have a life partner and we've signed up for ballroom lessons, starting next week. I just can't wait!

i live in hampshire, many of us would love to go to ballroom dancing, there is none. we have all been looking but no one can come up with anything. i believe they have some in bournmouth about 50 miles from we all are.
im sure if someone started a dance venue here there would be many happy people.

There certainly are ballroom events in Hampshire
and of course quite a lot in Bournemouth which
isnt in Hampshire any more.

Roughly where in Hampshire are you?

Greetings ...Count me in Happy

I go ballroom dancing for an hour every week at lunchtimes ...I have the most wonderful lady teacher ...and it's one to one teaching...best way in my humble opinion

Many years ago I went to dancing classes but then having not danced for several years went back about two years ago and decided to have one to one lessons ....massive difference. Have been going regularly ever since...I also play the drums so one discipline helps the other Happy

My teacher runs dancing classes in Crawley and Horsham ...so if anyone in the Crawley/Horsham/West Sussex area is interested in finding out more let me know and I will happily let you have her details

I have found a handy dance Magazine listing many dancing venues in London and the home counties, including Hampshire, it's called Dance Diary here's the website : http://www.dancesport.uk.com/dancediary/index.htm

Also Mr. Wonderfull Dancing holds super Ballroom and Latin Dances.
he is at www.mrwonderfulldancing.com

Hope this helps someone. Happy

I was seeking a partner for two years without success. A dancing partner website has few members and those that did were like 40 or miles away. I'm In Tamworth/Birmingham. I tried Ceroc once and hope to go again, but it's still hard going on your own even though you get a partner when you are there. I did try placing a newspaper ad, about 20 year ago which turned into a long relationship I was not looking for at the time, which had complications. And so with the dancing partner website, It seems its really a dating site as much as a dance partner site.

The best advice I can offer is to move to Bristol.
There are lots of dance venues here. I have been doing ballroom since 1959, and started sequence in 2004. I am still doing lessons and lots of time on the floor - ballroom, sequence and some latin. If I had the time, I could be dancing every day. I have other hobbies but manage about four times a week on average, sometimes more. Well Chuffed

At my regular club, there is inevitably an excess of ladies, but along with a few other spare guys, we manage to make sure that they all get a twirl on the floor.Big cheesy grinBig cheesy grin. I get to dance with some really good partners.
We all help each other to learn new dances.

It's the most fun way I know of getting exercise and keeping things moving. I do go to a David Lloyd gym regularly for more exercise and swimming, but dancing is still the most enjoyable.
At my weekly class we have recently learned Waltz Catherine, Rockefeller jive and Turnbull tango. We start a new dance every few weeks.

In case you're wondering - no I don't dance the hornpipe !!

I live in Southampton and there are loads of places you can dance. I dance on a Friday afternoon in Bassett and every fourth week there is a Tea Dance which I thought would be dreadful but was actually rather good. My first dance was a Foxtrot - a dance I've never done before - my partner knew exactly what he was doing and made me look fantastic!

There are also classes / dances on a Tuesday evening in Shirley and a new class starts at the beginning of May in Lordshill.

Have you enquired in your local Library - they may be able to point you in the right direction.
