You don't need to download the software and can cartoonize photos that you upload, then save them back to your pc. They do have a watermark but it's in the bottom right hand corner, so you can crop it off. Here's one I made earlier There are lots of other photo effects you can apply as well. If you Google, you will find quite a few programmes that do this, but this one is quick, easy and free. Edit: crossed posts with Calculo - same link of course!

You can save the results either to a server or your own computer. If you don't appear good on photos it can be amusing to see if a cartoon version improves you. I've left the watermark on this one. I don't know. But I don't think it matters. I do think one should be careful about using a recognisable pic of themself on a public forum. With BeFunky.com you have no excuse for not showing yourself in your avatar.
