Years back I needed to buy an expensive Michelin tyre and I had read sometime earlier that the best thing to do was to get the full details of the tyre(s) needed, Off the existing tyre, then use your yellow pages and phone around. My tyre went from nearly £150. down to £80 fitted.

Have a look on the internet . Put in your post code and it will give you several dealers close to you . Have the tyre size and rating that you want , and start haggling . If you do not cover many miles and drive carefully , then budget tyres will be fine , but if you do a lot of high mileage and some speed , then buy a more expensive set . Do not be put off , they want your money , and that puts you in charge . Good Luck .

Hi Dorsetflyer!

Thank you, my stepfather said that he had just bought some budget tyres. I don't that many miles now, which is something to bear in mind when I renew my car insurance too.

If you get a couple of quotes and then contact Kwikfit they used to match the cheapest quotes for tyres.....might be worth checking out......

National Tyres and Autocare also used to do a price match, don't know if they still do it. Be aware though, that if you go to one of these big national chains, they'll try and sell you lots of add-ons that you may not really need. Always make sure that the price you're quoted includes valves and balancing, because you will need those with a new tyre. I know, because I used to work for one of those big national chains, but I'm not saying which one Wink

Don't buy rubbish (and there is some) there is only a little bit of rubber between you and the road and there are some good deals around so SHOP AROUND and get a few quotes including a reputable private garage if there is one local to you.

Another avenue is Tyre Shopper UK. Put that into Google and it will bring up their website. Nearly all the big well known brands are on there. You order the tyres and they are then fitted by a tyre fitting centre - usually National Tyres - closest to your home. The price is all in - valves, balancing and eco disposal.

I have never found a price to beat them at any of the usual chains like Kwik Fit or ATS.

I've used them twice and been delighted.
