I have always fancied this holiday and would love to hear from someone who may have been. I am thinking about going on my own. Has anyone done this and can they recommend it.
When I just looked at avalability if I dont go March, the next one isnt till January 11. I didnt want to wait that long, but March is a bit short notice!

My wife and I did this about 5 years ago and we loved it.
It does rain around Kinabalu and you will meet mosquitoes on Turtle Island but apart from that I can't think of any other drawbacks.
There were quite a few singles on our trip but everyone was friendly and no-one, I am sure, felt left out.
Go for it and enjoy your hol.

Thanks Georgie. I just need to decide whether spending all that money on a holiday is worth it. There must be lots of other hol;idays far cheaper I could enjoy!!

Go for it Judy, you might not get another chance! We're doing our own rainforest adventure at Easter - Sepilok, Turtle Island and the Menanggol River, followed by 9 nights of luxury in the Datai on Langkawi. It's costing us an arm and a leg, but I know it'll remain in our memories for far longer than a fortnight on a Costa would.

I have now got the brochure, was looking on internet before, and I spy a different Borneo Adventure which looks a bit more adventurous,. called the Jungle Kingdom. Trouble is there aren't any singles left this year on that one It goes Sept and Oct which I would prefer. The singles Borneo one goes in May and Sept but Sept full up. I may ask my husband ( yes I do have one semi. separated)) if he fancies it but he will want something else I am sure. So not sure what to do now I was thinking there may be more rain in May than Sept because of monsoon etc. Is this true?.

If you look at the precipitation graphs for
Kota Kinabalu
on the west coast and
Sandakan
on the east coast, they're very different, considering the two cities are only about 130 miles apart, but both actually show more rain in September than in May. I thought it would be the other way round too!

Have you looked at any other operators? The one we're going with does holidays all year round and you can either choose from a set tour or tailor-make your own holiday from a choice of different modules.

I went to Borneo with Saga about 8 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the 5* Tarang Aru resort at Kota Kinabalu which unfortunately has now disappeared from the Saga brochure sine a few newer hotel were built there. There were excursions to the rain forest and by plane over to the Orang utang santuary. I met up with other travellers who had done the forest adventure and they all really enjoyed it. At that time the accommodation was fairly primative in the forest but you may enjoy that.
Please feel free to ask me any specific questions and I'll help you if I can.
