When is the best time to transplant roses bushes? Our grandson will be at the toddling stage this summer and we want to move our rose bushes from the back garden to the front to avoid any nasty accidents. Would now be a good time to move some of them before they start growing again? I'm just hoping they will like their new position. Any advice please.

There seems to be two methods of doing it for different times of the year. Have a look at this website. Hope it's of use. Happy Big cheesy grin

WHEN YOU MOVE THEM MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM PLENTY OF MANURE OR COMPOST, I HAVE MOVED ROSES AT ALL SORTS OF TIMES AND PROVIDED IF IT IS DRY YOU KEEP WELL WATERED YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS

Any time now would be ideal provided the soil is in a reasonable condition. Depending on what sort of rose they are I would reduce by at least a half all the top growth. However you dig them up you will damage the ends of the roots , it is a good thing to trim these with sharp secatuers before replanting. Do not forget you should not plant fresh roses where other roses have been. You should take out a couple of buckets full of the soil and replace with new soil to let the new roots get going.

Despite those delicate flowers, roses are really quite tough and if you follow the advice earlier posters have given,I`m sure all will be well.A gardener once told me that the only way to kill roses is to spray with weadkiller so moving shouldn`t be a problem.
