Absolutely right Suzy ... what a shameful impertinence on the part of SAGA to think that it's members would want to sign up to this. .. we have come to expect this day after dreary day in the relationships threads ... yawn! ...but now we have the Assistant Host getting in on the act. We are not a freak show! As a generation, we are being treated with contempt by the company which depends upon us for it's very existence .. or does the company know what goes on in here? I have my strong doubts. Is it just someone, adrift of the main company, 'avin a larf at us?
In reality I would imagine that about a dozen or so can't wait to sign up ... whilst the rest of us are indignant, and rightly so, but this isn't the first time that a thread like this has been started by a moderator under the guise of a TV documentary.

Sadly we live in the age of reality television so you will get those who will ...it is human nature ..... we may not like it so we can use the off button .
I suspect the assistant host is really just informing us of what is going on as Saga does like to be the voice of the over 50's hence you have been informed.
Television is run now by young people who have a different outlook from us .....
Meanwhile sex rears it's head again ....yes it does continue in over 50's and is often more meaningful ..... have a good day ..x |

What I was trying to convey in my earlier post is that SAGA as " the voice of the over fifties " as you put it, should be trying to represent us ... and represent us as we are ... fitting easily and seamlessly into society, articulate, numerate, poised and doing all the normal things that people do .. including having a sex life. We are sophisticated and have much to contribute to society still and this should be the time of our lives. Not for the first time, SAGA is allowing us to be portrayed as objects of ridicule .. of curiosity. Why should these questions be targeted at us but not other age groups? They are intrusive and almost insolent and the inference is that we are a generation apart ... a load of geriatrics unable to carry out anything but the simplest of tasks and the programme will almost certainly poke fun at us .. cheap TV.
Only recently, SAGA came out with it's own rather silly manifesto for the forthcoming election .. not that any of the parties will take the slightest bit of notice .. but here again, the message was that we need special treatment and all sorts of benefits and concessions simply because of our age. We don't ... we are normal ordinary people so please treat us as such .. and SAGA please start batting for the team you are supposed to be leading and not against us. You take our money for your products ... is it too much to ask for a little respect?

well well well, Its certainly got a debate going on in here..... I myself find it amusing, endemol do this thing all the time, you are not targetted because of your age... they do it on facebook, my space and bebo....just take a look at the adds that appear along side your forum/chat rooms targetted at a certain age/ income bracket....this is just another one of those' easy to reach markets', you know u can play em at their own game... sign up, and make up whatever story u like... its not to be taken seriously... c'mon.. endemol, channel 4, responsible for BIG BROTHER, DEAL or DEAL, AND DIARIES OF A CALL GIRL.... either become involved or not... its really not worth the anger.... just chill!!  |

I totally agree....take it in the spirit it was given in....but free publicity for Endemol, suddenly e few more ppl have heard of this company, and some of the trash they put their names too. |

Isn't the colourful imagery a bit emotive Jimjam? ... I don't think anyone would want to go as far as that. I know the zone gets all hot and bothered at times over very little .. but this is overdoing it surely? ... he might enjoy the lashes though! Perhaps all will be revealed on Channel 4

I somehow dont think even Channel 4 would enter the realms of Saga zone for that info.....
It is very amusing though, we should feel flattered that they even target Saga, but then very lazy researchers, probably a very easy option to find 50+'sers on here.... |

Hi DavidA, You are quite right about my comments, over the top. Saga have good points and bad points like any Business has, but as they are the host and i am their guest, then, if they annoy me in any way i'll just send them an e mail about it. I do understand that it's quite in order for folk to post comments about Saga or anyone else. I guess we all have different ideas and limits when it comes to "comments". Bye the way, most of your posts and your good ladie's posts are quite witty at times.......... |

Jimjam, I think the secret is not to take the zone too seriously ... and not to take ourselves too seriously!. And I think you have it about right in your posts and your outlook. David's football team had a manager, Tony Mowbray, whose criterion was " let me entertain you" and I thought how lovely that is!
We ourselves try to be entertaining .. most times failing miserably, but we try! we do try! ....have a nice evening.

I went to one of these regional lunches this week for the very first time. I felt at home straightway. There were sixteen of us there, five of whom were hidden throughout plus a further seven avatars .. all sitting in a row with their little blue heads.
We hadn't been seated more than a few minutes when two zoners fell out and started calling each other names and throwing bread rolls but it was all a bit of a laugh, especially when our host reminded us that a pair of knickers found in the car park after the Christmas do still hadn't been claimed. Lot's of sly winks, knowing looks and hilarious double entendres from all the 'relationships ' lot. When I left there were still three from the ' debate' forums arguing bad temperedly over the bill. It was just like being online really.
Oh! ... and I won the raffle. There were two prizes, the big one being ' a night out with Alan in Folkestone ' but I chose the soap and talc set. I didn't want to appear greedy.
