I am not classified as disabled but I do find it difficult to walk from the shops to the car parks when I'm carrying heavy shopping due to arthritis of my lower back.
How do I go about getting a disabled drivers disc ? Who do I apply to to get one or can my doctor start the proceedings. My late wife got one through McMillan when she had cancer but all I can remember is that it was offered and provided by them, so we didn't have to go through the procedure of applying for one.
Regards,
Ken.

As far as we know you have to get the form from your local Social Security office, have a look at it and see if you will qualify or not. My husband has rheumatoid arthritis and during flare ups his knees are affected but other that that he is quite mobile. He had to retire last year (he is a plumber) as his wrists are badly affected by it. Anyway, his doctor suggested he try to get a blue badge but it seems unless you are virtually crippled you haven't a hope so the best of luck to you.Happy

I understood it was the local council who issues the blue badge. I think a letter from the doctor does help in the proccess too.

My late uncle had CPOD and could hardly walk more than a few steps but had a terrible job to convince the powers that be, he got one in the end though.

Have a friend who recently applied for and got the badge. Forms came from the council which you complete and send back. Happy Big cheesy grin

Try the local social services, am not sure but I think you have to apply for dissability living allowance which includes the mobility payment and the blue badge.

a while ago i was hopping about on crutches for a year + so 1 rang library to enquire 2 form sent 3 put picture on. 4 sent in post to doctors to sign with sae , 5 send to county council with £2 6 badge and clock returned , problem solved in 2-3 weeks , note does not entitle you to free parking in a lot of car parks unless you are dla registered with a tax exempt vehicle tax disc . read parking regs on site or you could still get a ticket ,hope this is of some help to others .

I think that the process is different depending on where you live. Our Blue Badge application forms came from our local council and then were forwarded to our GP, to be completed and returned to the council.

I suggest that you ring both your local council and your doctors surgery to find which is the best route for you to follow , to make an application, in your area.
